Vertical Space Concept

THE PAVILION THEME
Adopting the Japanese pavilion concept as a central theme allows the designer to take full advantage of not only the horizontal but also the vertical space. With routes that circle around it, the pavilion will link up different activity areas in the flat and add to the convenience and comfort of the space.
Key points in the design are as follows:
  1. Combining a Japanese concept with a minimalist approach allows plenty of light penetration and the merging of internal and external space while cleverly retaining a certain degree of privacy.
  2. By giving the pavilion a central indoor location, natural light and outdoor air can reach every corner of the flat unimpeded. While serving to delineate different areas of the flat, the pavilion also offers a broad vista as well as plenty of light penetration and air ventilation.
  3. The low platform design for the sitting and resting area accentuates the high-ceiling feature of the room, while the pavilion idea provides more room for activities and storage.
  4. The multipurpose room can either be a guest room or turned into a Japanese-styled teahouse. By using a shoji sliding window made of lightweight translucent Japanese shoji paper to separate the sitting room from the master bedroom, it allows more flexibility and freedom in the room layout. The multipurpose room can be turned into an extension of the sitting room.
  5. Throughout the space, traditional Japanese design elements such as the use of fragrant and warm wood, cement and light translucent shoji all contribute to a feeling of warmth, lightness, translucency and cleanliness.

Smart Living Concept

Smart-home devices and systems can be integrated easily into the current design. The following are the ones being adopted:
  1. Auto-sensing mode
The system can detect changes in time and temperature, thereby making adjustments in lightings, curtains, air-conditioners, dehumidifiers and audio-video systems. Alternatively, different scenarios can be pre-set for different time periods. This does not only provide convenience and comfort, but will also ensure that all furnishing materials and wood are kept at optimal conditions under pre-set temperatures and humidity.
  2. Smart home-security
Using different detectors for smoke, the opening and closing of windows, etc, a smart home-security system can monitor the situations at different parts of a home. If there is any abnormality, the system can issue alarms, alert the police or the home-owner. Thus home-owners can leave home with an ease of mind.
  3. Voice interaction
Voice instruction can be input through a mobile or a Bluetooth loudspeaker to control all home electrical/electronic appliances such as audio-visual systems and curtains.
